Election day is Thursday and I am encouraging everyone to vote, if you haven’t already. History’s great thinkers say we get the government we deserve, so use your ‘x’ wisely.
You want a fair tax solution. You want council to work collaboratively, respectfully and transparently. You want good roads and infrastructure to serve existing residents and attract new families. These are the priorities I heard while door-knocking along every road in our ward.
These will be my priorities as councillor.
I have clearly stated these goals and the challenges we face in my election pamphlets, emails and website. I appeared before council on two occasions to advocate for rural rights and even got the head of council to publicly apologize for misleading us about rural taxation. You know what I stand for.
Help me onto council so I can continue working for meaningful change, from the inside.
One Last Chance to Vote
I voted Saturday in the advance poll, along with 66 other residents. The municipal office reports that 51 cast ballots in the North Ward and 16 in the South Ward.
Sealed ballot numbers are similar to advance polls. As of Monday morning, there were 50 North Ward and 8 South Ward residents who had voted by sealed ballot.
Your final chance to vote is June 20, from 8 am to 8 pm, at the Nesbitt Hall.
Council elections tend to be won on popularity rather than issues. Growing up in Souris, I don’t have the long family tradition in this municipality but I have been an active citizen since moving my family to Oakland in 2012.
I have sat next to you at public meetings regarding amalgamation, budgets, water and council’s behaviour. I have experienced the runaway taxes facing many ratepayers. I’ve been front-row at our council meetings, as both a resident and journalist for Southwest Post, and know the issues facing this municipality.
As an acreage owner, I will work closely with current councillor and farmer Brett Hargreaves to represent Ward Two, balancing the needs of residential and production landowners.
One Last Thought
You have the opportunity to elect the candidate whom you believe can best represent Ward Two; the one most able to function within a council dominated by strong personalities and competing interests.
In the voting booth, choose the person most capable for the task ahead. Let your conscience be your guide.
Thanks for your support and remember to vote!
Best regards,
-Glen
